Macassar Ebony

Macassar Ebony is a very high density wood. It is difficult to work and has a bright airy tone similar to Hard Maple. It is dark in color, with the body of the wood usually a light reddish-brown color with striking dark brown or black striped figuring running the through the wood.

It is a very durable stable wood. A few boutique builders have offered guitars built with Macassar Ebony necks. Some even offer neck-through-body guitars built from Macassar. This makes for an extremely heavy guitar build. A Macassar Ebony neck makes the instrument very top heavy, especailly when used on a bolt-on style guitar.

Even though a Macassar Ebony neck looks beautiful, we would not recommend its use in guitar necks due to the weight.
